The Source for Searches team will endeavour to provide a high quality service when dealing with your searches enquiries.

Below are some of our frequently asked questions about placing an order, using the online ordering site delivery and customer service. If you can’t find what you’re looking for please contact us and we will be happy to help.

If you forget your user id or password there is an option on the top right hand site of the website to request a reminder to your designated email address.

If you want to make any changes to an existing order please call the Source for Searches team on 08453 303401 who will be able to do this for you.

Although a postcode is useful it is not essential for us to complete a search. The website order form has the facility to search by a postcode or manually input the address details.

If you need to cancel you order please call the Source for Searches team on 08453 303401 with your order reference number. Please note this may not be the case for searches ordered from a third party and will be at the discretion of the search provider.

For the majority of properties we can complete a search without a plan. However, if a plan is available please email the plan to us, clearly stating your order reference number.

Yes, once you have submitted an order, you then have the option of placing another order or finishing the session and logging out.

Use the previous screen button on each page of the ordering site to work back through the screens to make your correction.

This is an additional security check to prevent automated registrations and inappropriate use of the site.

Registering is quick and easy to do. Simply fill out the required fields and enter the security verification code before submitting your application. An email confirmation will be sent to your email address which will confirm your user id and password to log in.

Sewers serving just one property inside that property's boundary are the responsibility of the homeowner, not of South West Water. We do not have records of where these sewers are. In order to find the location (and condition) of these sewers we would recommend getting a private sewer CCTV survey commissioned, a service that Source for Searches can offer or is available from most drainage contractors.

Where a property or part of a property is build over a public asset, such as a water main or sewer, it is advisable to check that permission has been granted in the past for the building or extension to have been built.

If you have an asset under your property, there are certain risks associated and the responsibility lies with both the property owner and the statutory undertaker to ensure that the risk to the assets are minimised. If, for example the weight of the building causes damage to the asset underneath, it may be possible that the property owner is held responsible, and similar if a broken asset causes damage to foundations, it may be that he statutory undertaker is held responsible. These cases are extremely rare but can cause problems.

Properties that are at risk of internal sewer flooding due to overloaded public sewers are recorded and disclosed in a CON29DW Residential report. Flooding as a result of temporary problems, such as blockages, siltation and collapses are excluded.

Our searches contain information on the quality of the water supplied to the area in which the property is located. Any sample that fails a water quality test within the area is reported.

If there are a number of properties served by one meter, for example flats or large estates of chalets it is possible that they do not receive individual bills and the water charges may be paid for by an administrator or management company.

If this is the case, the search will identify if there is a site meter or Management Company responsible for the bill in the location details section.

Source for Searches is part of South West Water which covers Devon, Cornwall, as well as small parts of Dorset and Somerset.

For properties where there is a shared provision of services with Wessex Water, the company that is responsible for the sewerage services will provide the Con29DW report, with information from both companies included.

We can provide all recommended search reports including drainage and water enquiries, flood risk reports, chancel checks and local authority searches across the UK.

Our searches are protected by indemnity cover. The Con29DW residential search is covered by £5,000 and the Commercial DW search is covered by a £2 million (Standard) or £10 million (Premium) indemnity cover.

We are only responsible for the information contained in reports issued by Source for Searches. Any third part report may contain inferred or out of date information, and we cannot be held responsible for any of these reports.

The Con29DW search identifies any liability that owners may incur and uncover problems that may impact on the property value and lead to expensive maintenance bills. A CON29DW search is recommended by the Law Society as an essential part of due diligence in purchasing a property.

The Con29DW Drainage and Water Search contains:

  • An analysis of the risk of receiving low water pressure together with the possible remedial measures
  • An assessment of the water quality
  • Charging basis for the property
  • Connection details of the property to the public networks
  • Details of the water meter location, if present
  • Full colour plans showing details of water and sewerage assets
  • Information on the risk of internal sewer flooding (i.e. from overloaded nearby public sewers)
  • The existence of any agreements or consents on the property
  • The location of nearby sewage treatment works

No, all administration charges will be covered by Source for Searches, part of South West Water and will not be passed on to the customer.

Yes. Just select the products you require for your first address or location then continue by searching a new address or location.

Yes, in order to arrange a refund please call our Source for Searches team on 08453 303401 who will be able to do this for you.

Yes, all information is sent via a secure server and will be received by our experienced customer service staff who will deal with your request. Information will not be passed to any third parties.

Once you have placed your order and completed the payment options you will receive confirmation to your designated email address.

If you are having difficulty making a payment online please call the Source for Searches team on 08453 303401 who will be able to help.

The reports will be sent as PDF files. In order to view these you will need Adobe Reader which can be downloaded online for free.

All our searches come with full colour plans and will be returned electronically. If you would prefer to receive your reports via an alternative method please indicate this when making an order.

We will endeavour to return your completed Drainage and Water search to you within five working days. If this does not happen and we have not contacted you to query the search request, or a delay is caused by ourselves that means the return is greater than five days, we will refund all charges.

For third party searches we will do everything we can to return the reports within the five working days but we can not guarantee this.

Each file is typically between 2MB and 5MB in size.
